Buying from The Coin Shop

Do you have a shop I can visit?

No. The Coin Shop is a family-run business that sells online only, from Bundaberg in Queensland. There is no shopfront. Questions go to admin@thecoinshop.com.au or through the contact form.

How can I pay?

By credit or debit card, or by bank transfer (direct deposit). We do not accept cash or cryptocurrency. Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where it applies.

How much is postage, and how long does it take?

Postage within Australia is a flat $15.95, which includes packing and tracking. It is free on orders of $300 or more, and those orders get signature on delivery. Orders are shipped within 48 hours of payment clearing and take 5 to 7 business days once Australia Post has the parcel. The details are on our shipping and returns page.

Can I return a coin?

Yes, within 7 days of receipted delivery if the product is not as described on our website, returned in its original packaging and condition. Sealed mint packaging must not be opened, damaged or removed. Email us first with your order number, the product and the reason. See shipping and returns.

Why do you ask for ID on large orders?

For any order over $5,000 we ask for identification before it is processed, and we may ask for more information when a payment or delivery request is unusual. It is our own policy to help prevent fraud. Refunds go back to the original payment method.

Is everything on the site in stock?

Every listing shows how many are in stock, and most pieces are one-offs. The newest additions are on the new releases page.

About the coins

What is a PNC?

A PNC (philatelic numismatic cover) is a stamped, postmarked envelope that holds a coin, issued to mark an event or anniversary. In Australia most are issued by Australia Post with the Royal Australian Mint. See our PNCs.

What does uncirculated mean?

An uncirculated (UNC) coin has never been used as money. Many of ours are sold in their original card, capsule, roll or bag, and each listing says how it comes. See our uncirculated coins.

What is the difference between proof and uncirculated?

A proof coin is struck with specially polished dies, usually more than once, to give a sharp, mirror-like finish, and is made for collectors. An uncirculated coin is struck to the normal standard but never circulated. See our proof and mint sets.

What does PCGS graded PR70 mean?

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is an independent company that grades coins and seals them in a tamper-evident holder. Grades run from 1 to 70; PR70 is a proof coin graded 70, with no imperfections visible at 5x magnification. See our PCGS graded coins.

Are your silver coins priced on the silver price?

No. Our silver coins are sold as collectable pieces, valued on rarity, condition, mintage and demand rather than on the spot price of the silver alone. The spot prices in the bar at the top of each page are live market figures, shown for reference. See our silver coins.

Do you sell banknotes and pre-decimal coins?

We are adding banknotes and pre-decimal pieces to the shop. If you are after something in particular, email admin@thecoinshop.com.au.
